    ENGINEERING GRAPHICS

CONCEPTS AND CONVENTIONS (NOT FOR EXAMINATION)

Importance of graphics in engineering applications – Use of drafting instruments – BIS conventions and specifications – Size, layout and folding of drawing sheets – Lettering and dimensioning. Scales: Construction of Diagonal and Vernier scales.

UNIT- I    CONICSECTIONS ANDFREEHANDSKETCHING

Constructionofellipse(concentriccircleandeccentricitymethods),construction of parabola(rectangleandeccentricity methods), construction of hyperbola (eccentricity method) Free-hand sketching;orthographiviews  of pictorial views.

UNIT-II      PROJECTIONS OFPOINTS,STRAIGHT LINES& PLANES

Orthographic projectionsof points, orthographicprojections ofstraightlines locatedinthe firstquadrantonly–determination of true lengthsand true inclinations–orthographic projectionsofpolygonalsurfaceandcircularlamina inclinedtobothreferenceplanes.

UNIT-III     PROJECTIONS OFSOLIDS

Projectionsof simplesolids(prisms, pyramids, cylinder andcone) whenthe axisis inclinedtoonereferenceplaneby changeofpositionandchangeofreferenceline methods.

UNIT-IV     SECTIONSOFSOLIDS&DEVELOPMENTOFSURFACES

Sectionsof solids(prisms, pyramids, cylinder andcone) insimple vertical position by usingcuttingplane inclinedtoonereference planeandperpendicular tothe other–obtainingtrueshapeof the section. Developmentof lateralsurfacesof simple andtruncatedsolids– prisms, pyramids, cylinderandcone– developmentoflateralsurfaces of solidswithcylindrical cut-outsperpendiculartothe axis.

UNIT-V      ISOMETRIC&PERSPECTIVE PROJECTION

Principlesofisometricprojection   -isometricscale–isometricprojectionsof simplesolids, truncatedprisms, pyramids, cylindersandcones–isometricviewof combinationoftwosimple solids. Perspective projectionof prismspyramidsandcylinderby visualraymethodand vanishingpointsmethod.
